R score calculator

Enter your grades, plus each group's mean and standard deviation. The calculator applies the official CRC formula and computes your weighted average.

Where do I find the mean and standard deviation? On your transcript or student portal (Omnivox, Léa, etc.). IFGZ and IDGZ usually aren't shown: leave 0 and 1 for an estimate.

The formula

A course's R score is calculated as CRC = ((Z × IDGZ) + IFGZ + 5) × 5, where Z = (your grade − group mean) ÷ standard deviation. IFGZ measures the group's strength in high school and IDGZ its spread. The constants 5 and 5 put the result on a 0 to 50 scale.

Your overall R score

Your overall R score is an average of each course's score, weighted by units. A failed course counts for 0.25 of its units in your first term and 0.5 after that.

For a full worked example, read our R score guide.

Limits of this estimate

This calculator gives an estimate. Only the Bureau de coopération interuniversitaire (BCI) computes the official score using your group's real data.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good R score?

Most R scores fall between 15 and 35. What counts as good depends entirely on the university program you're aiming for.

Why is my R score different from what I expected?

Your group's IFGZ and IDGZ affect the result. Without them, the calculator assumes an average group.

Does the calculator store my grades?

No. Everything is calculated in your browser; nothing is sent or saved.
